The spring festival season in the Bay Area officially begins in May, which means our area is full of amazing outdoor activities this month. If you’re searching for some family fun, artistic enrichment, or a way to support a charitable cause, there is an activity for you in the Bay Area this month. Here are a few of the best events May has to offer:
May Fete Parade
Downtown Palo Alto, Emerson Street and University Avenue, Palo Alto
The May Fete Parade
is a historic event in Palo Alto, dating all the way back to the 1920s when the Community Center Commission first sponsored it as a city event. This fun family event gives local youth groups a forum to show off their float decorating abilities in a parade that culminates
in a fair at Heritage Park. The annual parade begins at the corner of Emerson Street and University Avenue, then continues to Waverley Street and ends at Heritage Park.
Vintage Vehicle and Family Festival
Museum of American Heritage, 351 Homer Avenue, Palo Alto
Sponsored by the Museum of American Heritage, The Vintage Vehicle and Family Festival gives car enthusiasts a chance to browse a unique selection of vintage cars. The family fun at this free community event continues inside the museum, where children can take part in hands-on science demonstrations, view an interesting handmade bicycle display, and browse the museum’s historic record player exhibition.
A La Carte & Art
Downtown Mountain View, 400 Castro Street, Mountain View
Kick-off the Bay Area’s festival season with a celebration of the arts in Mountain View. The popular two-day event, A La Carte & Art
, includes live music, arts and crafts shows, artisan specialty foods, premium wine and craft beer, a classic car show, and home and garden exhibits.
Bay Area Brew & FanFest
Facebook HQ, 1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park
Enjoy craft beer and wine tasting for charity at the Bay Area Brew
& FanFest at Facebook headquarters. The family friendly event benefits hyperlocal youth sports and mentoring programs with a professional and collegiate sports showcase, farmer’s market, and artisan vendors. The monthly event is part of Facebook’s efforts to give back to the local community by showcasing area farmers, artisans, musicians, and family-friendly entertainment.
Fine Art in the Park
Lincoln Park, Menlo Park
As one of the Bay Area’s premier outdoor art shows, Fine Art in the Park
is home to fine art pieces from more than 150 artists. The annual event, which is hosted by the Los Altos Rotary Club, gives area residents the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind artwork, including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, and unique gifts. All proceeds from the art show support a variety of local community service agencies, in addition to international development projects spearheaded by the Rotary Club.

Sample the best wine the Bay Area has to offer while supporting the children of our communities at the annual Silicon Valley Wine Auction
. This year’s event begins with a celebration of wine at the private estate of John Couch and continues with a tasting extravaganza at the Montalvo Arts Center.
